Mitch White hurled a gem, Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit his first home run as a Blue Jay, and more!
Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

With four games left in Spring Training, the Blue Jays now have a .500 record.

On Friday afternoon, they hosted the Boston Red Sox at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, with the Jays picking up the win by a score of 5-1.

Let’s look at some things worth mentioning.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit his first home run of Spring Training to give the Blue Jays an early lead in the bottom of the second. He also hit a single and was one of only two Blue Jays with a multi-hit game.

Don’t look now, but the 28-year-old has had a pretty darn good Spring Training, slashing .351/.467/.486 with two doubles and five walks with 10 strikeouts. Last season was a rough one for Kiner-Falefa in New York, but it wouldn’t be all too surprising if he’s a 1 fWAR player at the very least.

Addison Barger was supposed to play right field, but was moved to third base as Eduardo Escobar was removed from the lineup.  Barger hit two doubles on the day, one driving in Toronto’s third run, while the other drove in their fourth run. This Spring Training, Barger is slashing .412/.524/.588 with three doubles and four walks with five strikeouts.

Daniel Vogelbach hit a single but also walked twice to reach base in all three of his plate appearances. This Spring Training, he’s slashing .250/.368/.594 with three homers in 38 plate appearances. There’s almost no chance that Vogelbach doesn’t make this team.

Other Blue Jays with a hit were Daulton Varsho and Garrett Spain, the former played hockey in Tennessee, not really relevant, but a fun fact.

Mitch White had a good start on Friday, finishing with a line of 5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K with a home run allowed. He’s pitched well enough to earn his spot on the 26-man roster, especially with the velocity increase. Today, he sat a tick above 95 mph and touched 97.3 mph with a 28 whiff%.

Chad Green had a good outing, finishing with a line of 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K to bring his ERA to 9.45. This is to say it’s been a rough Spring Training, but hopefully, the regular season will go much better.

Trevor Richards once again had a good outing, finishing with a line of 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, bringing his ERA to 4.35 with a 37.5 K% and a 12.5 BB%. Pretty much in line with what you expect from Richards.

The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday in split squad action! One game is against the Tigers at 1:07 PM ET with Yusei Kikuchi on the mound. The other game is at 6:05 PM ET against the Baltimore Orioles with Yariel Rodríguez on the mound.
