Monday Night RAW Results: Becky Lynch Celebrates And WWE Draft Wraps (4/29/24)
WWE

It’s time for us to take a look at this week’s Monday Night RAW results in a nutshell, as Becky Lynch celebrates her win and the WWE draft wraps up.

Quick Results

Gunther makes Xavier Woods tap out. During the ending sequence, Kofi Kingston nearly threw in the towel.

Bronson Reed and Sami Zayn ends in a disqualification as Chad Gable attacks Sami to end it. Bronson Reed left both men laying in the ring.

Maxxine Dupri lost against Candace LeRae.

Awesome Truth retains against Alpha Academy. Gable won’t be happy.

Jey Uso, Andrade and Ricochet defeat The Judgement Day

Best Match Of The Night

This was not a great show for wrestling matches. Just a lot of draft focus, but now that it’s over, buckle up. Lynch, even on WWE Draft night 2, got her title celebration of sorts, but it was nothing special.

Worst match of the night:

Liv Morgan and Nia Jax. Like, happy for Liv getting a big win, but the match didn’t work for me. And I am not even talking about the involvement of Naomi and Tiffany Stratton. Rather, watch this one again and see how Liv was not crisp running around the ring-almost seemed slow. And some of those moves delivered to Nia Jax just looked not good.

Star of the Night

Going unconventional and picking those NXT draft picks. Look, we all know wrestling is scripted. We also know that, according to some, the talent was in the dark as much as possible about whether they’d be drafted or not. NXT did draft parties on Friday and Monday, with all their talent in the ring watching live. Based on how pretty much every talent reacted, I’d believe they didn’t know. That or they are seriously good actors. Best part for me? You had Trick Williams seriously thrilled for Ilja Dragunov, less than a week after they beat each other up. Rivals were happy for one another because, heel or face, they just realized a major goal or childhood dream.

WWE

Spot of the Night:

Not sure what Mahomes was thinking (I really hope those were prop Super Bowl rings) giving his rings to Logan Paul to beat on Jey Uso. Of course, JD McDonagh ate them first.

Sami didn’t get full on revenge, but he did slug Gable good backstage.

Jobber of the Night:

JD McDonagh feels like he owns this one here. Poor guy takes all the shots.

Upset of the Night:

WWE

Drew McIntyre was all sorts of big mad. Mad he got drafted after CM Punk. Mad that Punk mocked him. But they are both on RAW, and McIntyre did ink a new deal, so it can’t be all bad.

Holy S--- Moment of the Night:

Braun Strowman is back. Not just drafted, but he returned to RAW to save Jey Uso from a three on one beating. And can I just say, Strowman looks jacked.

And did you see JD’s face?!

Botch of the night:

Liv’s baseball slide was a massive miss.

Do I say that Lynch and her pre-WWE Draft promo weren’t superb? Maybe?

LOL Moment of the night:

What is funnier, Dom Mysterio’s 70’s era adult film mustache? Or him being seen coming out of a backstage area shortly after Liv Morgan. After all, it was Morgan who wrote Rhea off. Stay tuned.

Also, R-Truth is back to being gold. Thought he could get drafted to the NFL, Miz told him to talk to Mahomes. To which Truth said. “the insurance guy!?”

Becky Lynch, as Damage CTRL circled her: “Don’t touch my belt.

Noteworthy Moment:

I could be wrong, but Michael Cole pointing out that Bianca Belair was the first African American woman to be picked number one in the staged WWE draft felt a bit like a shot at AEW. After all, they made a big deal about Swerve, and probably too much.

It’s also nice to see Stephanie McMahon back on TV. Yes, we saw her at WrestleMania. Now, she’s back on RAW. Maybe one night only, maybe not.

WWE

Nice to see the Kansas City Chiefs lineman recognized. He had a WWE title belt and used it to calm a young fan during the parade shooting in February.

CM Punk stays with RAW. I forgot to call this out on Friday, but they did tell us that he’d be on both Draft shows. Did not happen. His pick was followed by SmackDown grabbing The Pride-which feels like the first time WWE said that out loud. But RAW answered that with Braun Strowman going red, if and when he returns.

Overall lowlights:

Given the rigged premise of the draft, weird things will happen that require suspending logic. Like a first round where SmackDown gets Kevin Owens and Jade Cargill, and RAW grabs all four members of Damage CTRL and the remaining two of Imperium. Are we supposed to view those two as more valuable than the six? Nothing against anyone, but GUNTHER trumps any of them, outside of maybe KO, right now.

It’s been said before, elsewhere, by others. But, a lot of the new theme music in WWE is bad. They need to find their next Attitude Era musical star or something. What we don’t need is every new theme having the person’s name called out in song.

Overall highlights:

Becky Lynch enjoyed her celebration. And as champ, Becky Lynch dodged the draft. Thanks to the WWE Draft, she has new threats, like Damage CTRL and Lyra Valkyria.

Speaking of the 2024 WWE Draft. I don’t love all the moves, like RAW picks one faction, SmackDown picks one single Superstar. But regardless of that goofiness, things worked and I mostly enjoyed the presenation.

After the final bell:

Now the rosters head over to France, with SmackDown on Friday in Lyon, and Backlash on Saturday. Becky Lynch celebrated a little, but she has a big defense on Saturday and lots of challengers await.
